BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhuanet) –The Internet community of China is fast developing and becoming "smarter" as the number of cellphone netizens rose from 420 million in 2012 to 557 million in 2014, and cellphones, instead of PC, have become the most popular device to access the Internet.
Imagine if Internet could be used to increase the average attendance rate of movies, the number of diners at restaurants, and the utilizing rate of logistic trucks; to better match the doctors with the patients' need; and even to decide if a loan could be issued to a kid from Chinese rural areas based on behavior analysis.
Those are possibilities which Baidu alone has envisioned could be achieved by integrating Internet with traditional industries, according to Robin Li, the CEO of Baidu, China's largest online search company.
This is because much more technological innovation could be made by so many Internet companies in China, said Robin Li.
Speaking at the Office of the Central Leading Group for Cyberspace Affairs on Friday, he said, China's Internet industry is filled with vitality as a result of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation".
On the other hand, compared with their American counterparts, Chinese traditional industries in various fields are more willing to embrace Internet industry and take the advantage brought about by the innovation of the Internet industry.
Take "group buying" for example, said Robin Li, though the concept was born in the United States, developments of group buying in China and America are now much different in nature.
While still a way of advertisement at the other hand of the globe, Groupon has been transformed into offline sales channels in China.
In addition, technological innovation also made it possible for Chinese Internet companies to get command of useful data and thus play a role in the distribution of social resources more reasonably and efficiently.
That's how technology makes what used to be impossible possible, Robin Li said.
"We can’t miss the opportunity", added Robin Li, "We have to catch the trend, and lead it."
