A meeting to select the location of a Spanish plaza was held at the Xi'an International Trade and Logistic Park (ITL) in Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, on May 27, itl.gov.cn reported.
Alwin Van der Linde, ambassador of Spanish culture to China, Chen Wanyu, representative in China of Fundacion Van der Linde, Wu Xueping, deputy director of Xi'an’s parks and woods bureau, and Zhao Yuewang, deputy director of ITL management committee, were at the meeting.
It was decided that the Spanish plaza will be built on ITL’s west green field, covering an area of 10,500 square meters.
Li Qiushi, deputy director of the standing committee of Xi’an municipal people's congress, led a delegation to visit Mérida of Spain in December. Mérida proposed building a Spanish plaza in Xi'an and Xi'an would also build a city park in Mérida.
Based on the preliminary agreement, the parks and woods bureau and the foreign affairs office of Xi'an investigated the construction environment of Xi'an and decided to choose ITL as the final location.
At the meeting, Mérida’s parks and woods bureau and its Xi’an counterparts signed an agreement, deciding that Mérida will cover the design and related expenses for the Spanish plaza, and ITL would pay the construction and related expenses.
Meanwhile, both sides decided to initiate the Xi'an city park project following the model of the Spanish plaza.
